Parents and guardians of JIA students are partners in educating your child. All parents are encouraged and required to be significantly involved both at school and at home in supporting the professional work of the teachers. Ensuring your child completes their homework as well as spending time reading with your child will reap academic benefits.
Parents will be afforded multiple opportunities to speak with teachers and administration to stay current with what is happening in the classroom. Parent-Teacher Conferences are held four times per year and are listed on the school calendar. If the parent or guardian is unable to make the scheduled time, alternatives will be sought to encourage communication between school and home. Additionally, parent contacts will be made through phone calls, emails, text messaging, and two-way written communication as recorded in your student’s planner.
Parents can be involved at the school by volunteering through the Parent Volunteer Program. These opportunities include, but are not limited to:
- Parent-Partner Involvement
- Classroom Assistant
- Field Trip Chaperone
- Lunchroom Supervisor
- Book Fair Moderator
- New Student Recruitment Program
- PTO Membership and Leadership
- Playground Supervisor
- Spring Field Day Moderator
- Washington DC Education Trip (at grade eight)
